- The Intersection of Science and Faith: A Lunch with Rev.Dr. David Wilkinson
< Back to all programs The Intersection of Science and Faith: A Lunch with Rev.Dr. David Wilkinson Free Friday | Jan. 23 | 12-1 pm | Chen 100 Lunch Provided, Sign-Up Required To Participate: https://go.caltechy.org/event/823 About Join the Caltech Y for a thoughtful conversation with Rev. Dr. David Wilkinson exploring the intersection of faith and science. For many individuals, faith is a core part of who they are, informing their values, sense of purpose, ethical frameworks, and understanding of humanity’s place in the universe. Dr. Wilkinson brings a unique perspective as both a theoretical astrophysicist and a theologian. This event invites participants to reflect on how scientific inquiry and religious belief can coexist and contribute to a fuller understanding of the human experience. About the Rev. Dr. Wilkinson David Wilkinson is Professor in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University and Director of the project Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science. He holds PhDs in both theoretical astrophysics and systematic theology. Before working in Durham as a theologian, he was a scientist and then a Methodist minister in inner city Liverpool. David’s background is research in theoretical astrophysics. He was Principal of St John’s College from 2006 to 2023. His current work involves the relationship of the Christian theology to contemporary culture, from science to pop culture. He has written on the Big Bang, the end of the universe, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and the spirituality of Star Wars. His most recent book is How does act in the world? Science, miracles and mission (Wipf and Stock, 2025). David is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day. The lunch event is coordinated by the Caltech Y. Partial financial support for Rev. Dr. David and Alison Wilkinson’s visit is provided in honor of Mary Parker Davis who was trained as a scientist/engineer and a supporter of Caltech Y activities. Views expressed are solely those of the speaker(s). Note : for those interested in hearing more, Rev. Dr. David Wilkinson will be speaking, in a conversation with Prof. Mark Davis, on his book “God, Stephen Hawking and the Multiverse” from 7:30 to 9:00 pm Friday night as a part of Caltech’s Behind The Book Series in Ramo Auditorium .
