The Rise Program is an on-campus afterschool math and science-focused tutoring program serving public school students. The Caltech Y has been administering the program since 2006 and the program has been successful at helping students who struggle with math and science. The tutoring is provided by Caltech undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate students can use their Federal and Caltech Work-Study allotment to get paid for tutoring.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Caltech Y expanded the Rise Program with a new Y-Tutor program. The Y-Tutor program offers drop in, online tutoring for public school students. Both the Rise Program and
Y-Tutor program will be online only for the fall term.
Please use this guide in deciding which program is best for you:
Grades
8th – 12th grade public school students (PUSD students receive priority)
Commitment
Tutors are asked to commit to a minimum of 2 terms per year and 1 day per week of tutoring.
Schedule
Regular schedule (Mon-Thur, 4:00 – 5:30PM). Tutors commit to the same day each week.
Program Format
Tutors are matched with a regular student
Rise program
Grades
6th – 12th grade public school students (PUSD students receive priority)
Commitment
No regular commitment needed. Tutor when you are available
Schedule
Flexible schedule. Tutors decide how often and what times they are available.
