About
Join us Saturday, August 29th to explore the beauty of the Big Bear Lake area on foot and via kayak. We will depart the Caltech Y at 8am in-order-to arrive in the Big Bear area to hike, and have lunch on, the Cougar Crest Trail. In the afternoon we will transition to the water to enjoy a couple of hours of Kayaking on Big Bear Lake before driving back by 7pm.
The Cougar Crest Trail is a moderate 5 mile, out and back, trail, with just over 800 feet of elevation gain that has panoramic views of the lake. The kayaking will be relatively easy (no experience is needed, and kayaks and life jackets will be provided). Each person will need sturdy footwear with tread and attire suitable for hiking plus attire suitable for swimming is in case you end up in the water, and sun protection, water, and food for the day.
* The cost to participants, $10 (after the Y subsidy), covers the kayak rental. In addition to this, you should plan on giving ~$20 to your driver, if you are riding in someone else’s vehicle (transportation is not provided), to help cover gas and transportation expenses. A spreadsheet will be sent out so participants can organize themselves into vehicles for carpooling. Spaces are limited – watch for a confirmation or wait list email with more details within a few days of signing up. Email Satvik (sgkumar@caltech.edu), Pratiman (pde@caltech.edu) or Omid (omidgolami@caltech.edu) if you have questions.
