Purpose:
The Caltech Y Alternative Spring Break Program is designed to place Caltech students, faculty and staff in various communities to engage in volunteer service and experiential learning. Participants gain a broader understanding of the world around them while at the same time making a tangible difference in the community.
Goals:
*Educate participants and heighten social awareness
*Promote diversity by challenging assumptions and stereotypes
*Promote greater interaction between staff, students, and the community
*Start a life-long commitment to service and develop responsible citizenship
*Strengthen student leadership by developing teamwork, interpersonal skills,and decision making skills
