Summer Travel Grant Announcement – Studenski Memorial Award

The Studenski Memorial Award is a travel grant of up to $4000 established in the memory of Paul Studenski, who in 1974 was killed in an automobile accident while on a trip across the United States. It is awarded to a Caltech undergraduate who has reached a crossroads in life and would benefit from a period away from the academic community in order to obtain a better understanding of self and to explore possible directions for his/her future.

Proposal Guidelines
If you are an interested Caltech undergraduate who is in good academic standing, you should submit a concise written proposal (one or two pages) that includes:

  • A narrative describing the “crossroad” in which you find yourself.  Consider the following questions when articulating your proposal: What are the choices you face? How will time away from Caltech and the academic community help you better understand yourself and your future plans?  How will you use this award to explore the world outside of Caltech and your home? How will this award help to expand your horizons?
  • How you intend to use the award and how these plans will fulfill the purpose of the award.
  • A budget sheet with specific travel plans and estimated expenses.  Travel can be within the United States as well as abroad.
A cover sheet with your name, phone number and email address.

Application and Selection Process:

  • The Student Relations Committee of the Caltech Y Board of Directors will review applications and select a recipient.
  • Proposals are due by 5:00 pm, Friday, March 5th, 2010 to caltechy@caltech.edu or the Caltech Y office. Electronic applications are preferred.
