Volunteer at Hathaway-Sycamores, a group that supports local underprivileged but motivated high school students. Caltech Student Health Fair - Monday, May 14th

Stop by the Caltech Student Health Fair - next Monday, May 14th on San Pasqual Walk in front of Chandler from 11:30am - 1pm to learn more about leading healthy lifestyles. In conjunction with the American Red Cross Blood Drive and Semana Latina, many off-campus and Caltech health related groups and resources will have info, interactive activities and demos on leading healthy lifestyles. Come take a try at a short "Health Jeopardy" with the opportunity of winning prizes such as a free massage and movie tickets! Don't miss out on the free food, massages, food, music and give blood!

Science Policy and Diplomacy: A Conversation with Dr. Alice Huang

To sign up visit: As a distinguished microbiologist, Dr. Alice Huang made a name for herself through pioneering molecular characterizations of viral structure and function. She was a Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School, as well as the Director of the Laboratories of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital in Boston. Later she became the Dean for Science at New York University. Dr. Huang moved to Pasadena and became a Senior Faculty Associate in Biology at Caltech after her husband, Dr. David Baltimore, was hired as its seventh president. She served as President of the American Society for Microbiology from 1988-1989, was elected President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for the 2010-2011 term, and subsequently, Chair of the AAAS Board of Directors for the 2011-2012 term. Dr. Huang also sits on the Boards of Rockefeller Foundation, Waksman Foundation for Microbiology, and Public Agenda. She has a special interest in science policy and science diplomacy, especially in matters of scientific relations between the US and Asian nations, and delivered the AAAS 2011 Annual Meeting Presidential Address on these topics. Huang has consulted on science policy for government agencies in Singapore, Taiwan, and China, and she is a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy.

The Caltech Y Science and Policy Series invites members of the Caltech community who have played a role in the formation, implementation, or evaluation of science policy to interact with a small group of interested students over an informal lunch. Eaton Canyon and Henninger Flats

Caltech Y Outdoors Hike: Eaton Canyon and Henninger Flats this Sunday, May 20 Text: The Caltech Y Outdoor Adventures group is going on a hike to Henninger Flats this Sunday, May 20. We will meet at the OLD Y building at 8:30 am and leave for the trailhead by 9:00 am. We will start hiking at the Eaton Canyon Nature center and follow the stream for a while, then head up the hills and stop at Henninger Flats where you can see all of Los Angeles and even the ocean on a clear day. The hike is seven miles round trip with about 1600 feet of elevation gain on the way up. The Pasadena Marathon will also take place this Sunday, and Wilson Ave in front of the Y and Del Mar Blvd on the north side of campus will be both closed to all traffic. Therefore, we will meet at the OLD Caltech Y building, on San Pasqual next to the Athenaeum Tennis Courts. Hill Ave and the San Pasqual entrance to campus will be open, and you can access Hill Ave from the south if you need to drive to campus. You should take the Altadena Drive exit from the 210 freeway and then use California to get to Hill.
