The Caltech Y Board of Directors is composed of faculty, JPL and Caltech staff, alumni, students, and community members dedicated to the enhancement of student life. The Board guides the organization and defines the Y's mission and what it strives to accomplish.
Richard Beatty is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '77) and is a member of the Gnome Glub. A JPL engineer for 15 years, he co-founded the "Triangle Project", a non-profit for new foster parents in LA County. He is a member of the Anglican Chorale of Southern California and the Gay & Lesbian Alumni Association of the University of Notre Dame.
Donald Brown is a community member and retired golf course manager of Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena.
Bill Burrows is a development professional with Whittier College.
Marshall Cohen is a professor of astronomy in Caltech. He was instrumental in setting up Y Friends trip to Palomar observatory a few years ago and remains active on campus.
Franklin D. Dryden is a Caltech alumnus (BS '54, MS '57) and former Y ExComm President. The Franklin D. Dryden Multipurpose Room located at the Caltech Y is named in honor of his many years of service to the Caltech Y.
Daniel Erickson is a Caltech graduate (Class of '67) and works at JPL developing spacecraft software.
Lee Fisher is a Caltech graduate (Class of '78) and currently serves as Secretary on the Gnome Club Board.
Samantha Foster is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '98). She got her MBA in Stanford in 2007, and she works as a finance/hedge analyst in Pacific Alternative Asset. She served on the Y board both as a student and later as a non-student member.
Barbara Gee is a community member and wife of board member, John Gee. She supports various Caltech organizations and has a great love for working with students. Barbara enjoys baking and cheering on Caltech Athletics teams.
John Gee is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '53) and has previously served on the Y Board. In addition to the Y, John is also active with the SURF Program, the Gnomes, and the Alumni Association.
Marjorie Gooding is the director of International Scholar Service in Caltech. Marjorie has great interest in the work of the Caltech Y. She is dedicated to the experiences of students at the institute.
Debra Dison Hall is an alum (Class of '74) and was in Caltech's first class of undergraduate women. She is a lawyer specializing in representing profit and nonprofit organizations with respect to legal issues.
Connie Kofahl is a community member. This is Connie's second 6-year term on the Board of the Caltech Y.
Nancy Lan is a former Caltech researcher serving her second 6-year term with the Y Board. Among her many hobbies and talents, she also enjoys gardening and cooking.
Anthony Leonard is a Caltech mechanical engineering graduate of Caltech (Class of '75) and was a member of Ricketts House. He serves on the Gnome Club Board and is a professor of Aeronautics at Caltech.
Gretchen Leonard is involved with the Linda Vistans. She is returning for her second term to the Y Board.
David Levy is the Director of Financial Aid at Scripps College in Claremont, CA. Devoted to helping students attain a college education, David has served on numerous federal, regional, and state-wide committees to assist legislators and policy makers streamline the student financial aid.
Rosemary Macedo is the current Managing Director of Quant Equity Research at Deutsche Asset Management. A former Caltech undergrad (Class of '87), she is returning to service on the Y Board after serving as the Executive Director at the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship Program of the Watson Foundation.
Tom Mannion is Assistant V.P. of Student Affairs, Campus Life at Caltech. In addition, he teaches a popular cooking course on campus.
Doreen Mason is a retired nurse and a former nursing director at the Caltech Health Center. She and husband, Peter, met on the Y Board in the early '90s.
Peter Mason is a Caltech alumnus (B.S. '51, Ph.D. '62). He has taught in the Electrical Engineering department at Caltech and currently dabbles part-time in the Physics Department. He is returning for his third term on the Board.
Susan Murakami is a Caltech alumna (Class of '75). She is a pathologist at Huntington Memorial Hospital and is past president of the Gnome Club.
Robert Nathan is a retired engineer from JPL and also a Caltech alumnus. He has his PHD in chemistry and biology. After receiving his PHD from Caltech, Bob had a distinguished career at JPL, where he was awarded the largest monetary award ever given(at that time) by NASA, for his work on image processing.
Antoinette (Toni) Perpall graduated from Seattle University, majoring in Psychology. She then attended the Graduate Business School at UCLA and worked in Business Systems Management until retiring. Toni' has contributed many years of service to the SURF Board, the Trinity Care Hospice Foundation and is a Skipper' First Mate at the King Harbor Yacht Club.
Bob Perpall was a member of Fleming House before graduating from Caltech in 1952. With his Mechanical Engineering degree, he started working on turbochargers for Garrett Corp. He served as the Vice President and Division Manager before retiring. Bob has been actively involved with the SURF Program and the Alumni Association.
Don Pinkerton graduated from Caltech in 1957. While a student, he was active on the Y ExComm and has previously served on the Y Board. Don is also active with the Burbank YMCA and is a member of the Gnome Club. In addition, Don and Jane are active members of the Caltech Associates.
Jane Pinkerton has served previously on the Y Board and was active with the Friends Committee. A former pharmacist, Jane is active with the PTA, National Charity League, and La Providencia.
Jean-Paul Revel is a former Dean of Students at Caltech. Jean-Paul started his first term on the Y Board in 2006.
Candace Rypisi graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Women's Studies and received an MA from Colorado State in Literature and Women's Studies. She is currently the Director of the Student Faculty Programs at Caltech.
Fredrick Shair is a retired Caltech professor(1965-1995). He got his MA in Chemical Engineering at UC Berkeley. He is a member of Gnome Club. He likes music, poetry, tennis, and mentoring in science.
Betty Sirri is a community member serving her second 6-year term with the Y Board. A professional violinist, she recently retired after a long and distinguished career with the Pasadena Symphony.
Norri Sirri is a community member serving his second 6-year term with the Y Board. A former JPL employee, he is currently working with Y ExComm members in coordinating discussions with the Pasadena Area Liberal Arts Committee.
Deborah Smith is a community member. Deborah started her term with the Y Board in 2006 and currently works at Pasadena City College.
Douglas Smith is the Editor of Caltech's publication "Engineering & Science". He started his term with the Y Board in 2006 and is active with the Caltech's Theater Arts group.
Ben Turk is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '98) from Blacker House. A mechanical engineering, he then joined Boeing as a design engineer in the satellite development center. He enjoys backpacking, cycling, photography, and basketball in his spare time.
Dorothy Tyson is a retired teacher from Alhambra Adult School. She graduated from UCLA, and she is a member of Caltech Women's Club. She likes traveling, gardening, and reading.
Howell Tyson is a retired industry consultant from IBM. He is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '50) majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He loves traveling and sailing.
James Workman is a Caltech alumnus (Class of '57) majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of Gnome Club. He is very active and dynamic participant in Y board activities.
